Governing Humanity

I have just finished reading Aldous Huxley's letter to George Orwell regarding his book Nineteen Eighty Four. He praises his novel and continues to say that he believes that the world expressed in both books can very easily become a reality. He writes to Orwell that "The lust for Power can be just as completely satisfied by suggesting people into loving their servitude as by flogging and kicking them into obedience." This, and of course Brave New World in it's whole, helped me recognize that Huxley truly realized what dehumanization is. He recognizes that forcing and conditioning are very similar actions, they are processes that result in people going against human nature- conditioning, as the World State does to it's people, can be far more dangerous in it's subtle and passive way.

Matthew had made the connection to Divergent earlier, but it is an excellent connection. The skeptics, and in Veronica Roth's novel, "Divergents", are really the only threat to a world where nobody realizes what is being done in it's entirety, and they are the only ones who pose a real threat. 

The world can be shaping us without our knowledge, and as The Directer had said in protection of his precious unnatural nature, "The greater a man's talent's, the greater his power to lead astray...no offense is so heinous as unorthodoxy of behavior."
